The second heat of the annual competition was held on June 6 in Dubbo.

Qualifying to the final were 14-year-old Dubbo local, Margie-May Hockey, and 16-year-old Max Mustonen from Wallendbeen.

Margie-May wowed the judges by performing the original track, Billy's Ride, and Beccy Cole's sensational Poster Girl.

Each of the songs showcased her powerful voice, while the original also highlighted her songwriting ability.

Progressing to the finals is another step forward for the young singer, who in January was awarded the Aristocrat Junior Entertainer of the Year in Tamworth.

Max performed renditions of the Garth Brooks hit, If Tomorrow Never Comes, and Johnny Cash's classic, Falsom Prison Blues.

Again, each of the selections allowed the young performer to show off his vocal skills and accomplished guitar-playing talent.

The pair will join eight other finalists from around the state at the Junior Saddles Competition Final to be held at Rooty Hill RSL on Saturday, October 9.

The winner will not only take out the prestigious 2010 title, but also a $1000 cash prize, as well as performing during the Goilden Saddle Awards later the same day.
