Confirmed are appointments with songwriters John Bettis and Michael Davey, who've had material recorded by, among others, Madonna, The Carpenters, Martina McBride, Lee Ann Womack and George Strait. Darke is no stranger to sharing the pen with writers of note. For last year's debut EP she wrote with some of Australia's finest, including Allan Caswell, Drew McAlister and Roger Corbett. Darke will spend a month in the States and hopes to return home with the finished product. She is widely considered to be one of Australia's most promising young performers. During this year's Tamworth Country Music Festival, she was declared winner of the World Alliance for Radio Presenters New Talent of the Year award. She was also runner-up in the Telstra Road to Tamworth competition, and a top five Toyota Star-Maker finalist. More recently, Darke was a finalist in the Best New Talent category of the Victorian and National Country Music Awards. While she was seen by many at various talent quests around the country, the release of the EP really took the Camden native to a far greater audience. It contained the singles Crawl and You Better Run. Film clips for the tracks have received a high play count on cable network CMC. Also on the EP is current single Not My Time To Fly, a tender song that was inspired by a visit she made to Ronald McDonald House. She wrote it with Drew McAlister, of McAlister Kemp. The single version of the track includes a re-recorded vocal. Watch for the video clip to be screened on CMC soon. |
