Passfield is still riding on the back of his current album, Timberman and Other Tales, of which the title track is dedicated to the memory of his father. The album is very much the product of a seasoned singer-songwriter. The material is from the heart and it's honestly hard not to admire. Lyrically, the songs cover a broad range of subjects, from kinship and love on tracks Old Friends and I Look To Your Love, to patriotism on Five Silver Stars. Tracks extremely close to Passfield on the album are Timberman and The Man Who Was My Dad. Both are in honour of his father, who died on May 1 of last year. The song Life Goes On focuses on his mother, who has been left to pick up the pieces. Passfield is also well known in country music circles for his inspired instrumentals. So much so, that the song Start Jumpin from his debut solo release, earned him the 2008 Gold Guitar for Instrumental Of The Year. Timberman contains two new lyric free pieces, Badl Bounce and the exquisite Melanie's Dance, which Passfield named after a young girl who he says politely requested he play something she could dance along with. At the time she was dressed in a ballerinas costume. Passfield said he was proud of his work to date. ''I see an album like it's a time capsule,'' he said. ''I'm not trying to write commercial poppy country songs. I'm trying to write stuff that is my story and hopefully I have delivered it well enough that people are interested in it.'' Passfield's local performance starts at 8pm and is free for club members and their guests.
